You will never get a woman's brain, and women will never get men's brains, but you might as well adjust to making the two puzzle pieces fit. I'm writing this in response to many men/women posts I have read over the last years on MYDL, so men, focus.
Our Thoughts on Dates
Most women like the surprise, more than the price. Remember, we're nurtures. We are heart people. Take us to Villamoura, but act like a moron, it's over. Take us to Spur, and be a honey, bring flowers from your garden, and show us you spent some time choosing that shirt, and you have got our attention. We're just as nervous as you, and also cannot get our brains off a possible first kiss.
Now that we're together...
A woman's independance is still important. Silent treatment is not always directed at you. It means "Go watch sport and let us chill". Surprises such as: washing the dishes. Running a hot bath for us, making some coffee, is how you maintain, and if the month allows it, a nice dinner out, and maybe a movie.
Laws of ATTRACTION
Learn to love us for our personalities! We're not always going to be supermodels

There's a flipside to that as well of course. A nice meal instead of a instameal since the path to a man's heart is through his stomach... A beer after we fix your shoe or other handyman-type thingy to make your life less troublesome etc... Not putting either side down but men and women have to give and take,share and care, from both sides to keep eachother happy. And yes, it's not always the expensive or big thing, a compliment or understanding silence works wonders too

Balance and communication, the perfect meds for a relationship
Give/Take is important in EVERY aspect. Watch Oprah with her, and she'll watch rugby.
But leave Sex and the City for her and her girlfriends! And she'll let you relish in Top Car.

Women from Mars...Men from Venus?? We are so different in so many ways that often it is amazing that the human race has survived...!!
But...I would agree...women enjoy the surprise...the spontaneous...and the thought... Men enjoy the food.
Also (and this has been learnt the hard way...!!!) women often just want to be heard, listened to...but not necessarily given the advice... Many males are brought up to be problem solvers, and (whether it is asked for or not!) we will try to suggest solutions, or fixes. Women already know these solutions...we are being told for another reason. We (as males) are not being asked to solve the problems...that is often easy and obvious, and we are not being clever by stating the obvious. But women want to be heard, to be listened to... And it can be tricky for males not to share their wisdom in this instance!!
I have seen it with students. Male students come with problems, and they want solutions. The trick is to find the best solution, offer it, and move onto serious business like rugby. Female students will want me to know that they have problems...they probably already have the solutions...but they need me to know about the problems. I have to learn to shut up & listen better...!!!!
Of course, none of the above applies once a month...and if the day ends in a 'Y' :upset

Seriously, I have had years of getting it wrong!!! 
I only emply females, so I have had to become a good listener. My wife only works with males, so she needed to adapt to, and give the advice that men are looking for, and not expect to have to listen to them...
