So gadgets for 2009, wow that is tough, surely with the annus horribilus we just encountered we should be focusing more on where not to spend... Although I guess any technology fundi just can't get enough and no amount of credit crunches or Dubai debt would put an end to that.

So where to start, well all the gadgets mentioned on this wishlist will be one liners because if you can't explain it in one line then I guess it is far too complicated for anyone's use.

The Apple iPhone 3G - well because it's cool and you don't get BlackBerry thumb.

Next stop the Nintendo Wii, it's great for getting the peeps around a TV screen and having a laugh, tossing stuff at the screen and not breaking anything also adds to its value.

PS3, some may ask why 2 games consoles, well this is more, as we all know, it is the heart of any entertainment system and you'd be a fool not to make it yours.

So what do we get to view the fun of the Wii and the integral nature of the PS3 on, well none other the the Aquos. Yes that's the Sharp 108-inch LCD TV, and although my wall might not be big enough, I'm sure I'll make a plan on its arrival.

Last but not least, it's the most fundamental position of all the gadgets mentioned and it involves sitting. It's the place where you will most likely spend 99% of your time when using 3 of the 4 gadgets mentioned above. Final stop is a chair to die for, it's the Medi-Sage therapeutic massage chair and I just can't get enough...

will 2010 be the World Cup of the handball?

How I would hate to be an Irish fan at this moment in time and who came up with the term 'luck of the Irish' because it just seems so out of place at the moment. So Ireland go out because of Thierry Henry's elusive handball, a bit like England losing to Maradona's 'hand of God'? Or have we forgotten about that incident, and one would have to say it had a lot more significant than the Henry one but try tell an Irishman that.

It seems that handballs are now at the fore of all things football. Anyone see the Totetnham game yesterday, yes I know that it will be remembered for Jermaine Defoe's fiver but did anyone see the only Wigan goal of the game? Another blatant handball goal in as many weeks.

Surely a referee and his linesman can tell if a player handballed both of the situations mentioned above? I mean if a ball deviates like it did on both occassions how else would it have done so other than via a hand ball? I just can't see the reason other than by a hand, unless players have developed a new technique to twist the hip in such a fashion as to control the ball as it was controlled. A bit sci-fi if you ask me. Come on ref's you need not only be a good judge of character but also a good judge of what may go on the field even if you can't see it in full view. And what about your linesmen, what are they paid to do, or is this some sort of heirarchy that they don't really have a say or role to play at all unless you say so. Worse yet, any chance the gamblers had a say in this?

I guess we could also blame a fourth person, the player who commits the foul. Surely in the spirit of the game they shouldn't be going beyond the extra mile to win a game but I guess glory is worth more than a bit of dignity. Then again, who am I to judge.

All I am hoping for is that the 2010 World Cup is not decided by such a fate. And what are the odds on France winning it? Now that would be another talking point.

Day #9
<
yesterday>
So it’s early to rise and I am feeling last night. We sneak a quick breakfast in it’s into a taxi onto a ferry onto a bus and we are off to Krabi. It must be said that this is the longest bus trip ever, I think they forgot about a tourist bus and instead put us onto the public bus, nothing like stopping every ten minutes to pick up some locals on the side of the road. We left the hotel in Koh Samui at 8:30am and arrived at Aonang Paradise resort in Krabi at 6:30pm. Wow I didn’t expect that but alas we do arrive in paradise. The bus trip reminded me of a 14 hour bus trip I took in Turkey about ten years ago, 3 of us were stuck behind some kids who didn’t speak a word of English and they dropped their seats and well they just didn’t accept the words out of our mouths to put them back up. It was probably the most uncomfortable time I have ever experienced.

Back to Thailand. So on the bus trip we stopped in a place called Surat Thani, I would call it no go town but it does seem to have one thing going for it, it’s the centre of all road networks in Thailand and some cheap Pad Thai for lunch. Otherwise it reminds me of downtown Johannesburg train station from a few years back.

The hotel in Krabi has an amazing backdrop of cliff faces and I can’t wait to see the pool bar come the morning, and of course use the pool. We drop our bags and head out to the main street for some long-awaited dinner. It’s fairly quiet, which is a strong contrast from Koh Samui. We pop into some Italian place called Zanatti’s and I grab pasta and garlic bread, pretty standard but it does the trick. After dinner we just walk around and it seems that the whole place is on promotion, buy this and get that... tough times. We manage to find a pub called the Football Bar and guess what, it’s the Chelsea Supporters Club, it seems you can’t leave home without finding one of these wherever you go. We grab a drink here but call it quits early after a somewhat hard day’s travel. <tomorrow>

bandwidth... who needs more bandwidth?

Wow, can that really be a statement, well not really I guess. Yeah I need more bandwidth to pilfer movies on line, watching them stream live in HD while I download them is even better, or in order to download those thousand songs just in the time it takes me to make a snackwich. So I guess for these types of leud activities I may want more bandwidth and then some. I mean how could I forget the online gamers or better yet the men who can't say no to porn. Now those are good reasons for needing more bandwidth.

Well I do hope you know that I am just joking, as yes of course I want more bandwidth, not that I personally would know what to do with it all. Personally all I want is to be rid of Windows Vista as that may speed up my PC a little... I am just tired of being asked for permission for everything.

The reason I posted this blog is not to blab on about what I need more bandwidth for but I actually found something that will keep you busy for a fair few minutes and takes less bandwidth to use than what I may use messing about in Gmail.

A mate of mine actually showed me the way but for the answer check out this link, it's a world of pain if you got some work to do ;-)
