SA students to compete in NY PDF Print E-mail
Today is a very exciting day for two South African youths who are setting off to New York City (NYC) to compete in the LG Mobile World Cup.

22-year old Kgothatso MoeraneTwenty-year old Natalie Witoslowski and 22-year old Kgothatso Moerane, both studying at TUKS, were the winners of the South African competition and will on the 14th of Jan compete against 26 contestants from 13 countries for grand price of $100 000 USD, which will be split between the team.

The LG Mobile World Cup is a competition for people who can type the fastest and most correct on a mobile phone. There are two categories: The QWERTY keyboard category and the Numeric keyboard category.

Natalie will compete in the numeric category of the competition and Kgothatso in the QWERTY category, but they will also compete as a team and both will have to put their best forward in order to win.

You can think of the championship as a spelling bee, but the participants are also playing other word games to compete on speed and accuracy.

It is also interesting to note that this competition is considered a recognised e-sport and as winners of the South African competition both contestants have subsequently achieved National colours from Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA), which oversees e-sports locally.

Natalie will be competing using the new LG BL20 or latest Chocolate phone, only to be launched in South Africa in April and Khothatso will be competing using the LG GW520, the big brother of the LG Chatterbox.

Another interesting fact regarding the competition is that typing using a numeric keyboard, according to LG and MSSA, is in fact faster than using a QWERTY keyboard.
