Ok so amazingly Twitter have finally decided to officially support the most used feature on it's Social Media website. The Retweet has long been the respectful nod between tweet slingers, twitter bandits and tweeter banditos alike.

Ok if you don't know what the retweet is, it's basically just twitter community members sharing already tweeted stories. These stories are usually preceded by a RT to signify this is not an original tweet and the username of the original tweeter.

eg.

RT @mikezilla14 My new mydl post: Amazon Kindle in South Africa, don't bother!!! http://bit.ly/3VoNy

So that's what the old retweet was about and it was everywhere except in the actual feature list of Twitter.

No official Support for the Retweet

The Retweet has long been the most used feauture on twitter for a number of reasons,

• people are largely less funny than other people, therefore it's a lot easier to forward or Retweet other peoples funny moments and be funny by association the tasteless e-mail forwarding is an archaic form of this.
• People like to Retweet to let other people know what awesomely deep and inspiring things they read in their spare time this makes them seem more interesting than they really are, people funnily enough are also less interesting than other people.
• Retweeting is a way of showing losers that you care without actually having to talk to them or God forbid touch them to hug them. Retweet some of their inane drivel and validate their sad existence for them.

Retweet and the world Retweets with you

Seriously though the Retweet is to twitter what the SMS was to the cell phone. That feature no one thought of that became the main reason for the nasty little devices for many. The Retweet in essence is Ubuntu it's the principle of community. Larger than that the Retweet is what will eventually break Google's strangle hold on the internet. The Retweet is in essence the antidote to the search engine. It's the victory of user reviewed content over algorithm friendly traffic. So let us all raise our glasses and twit pic it and tweet and retweet this post!!
