Looking for the perfect gift for the festive season? Why not make your own beanie that plays music?
This is exactly what Aerial7 is doing as they unveiled their range of fashionable Sound Disk Beanies. The beanie allows you to plug the built-in headphones into any iPod, MP3 player or cellphone that supports 3.5mm headphone jacks.
The ultra-slim design ensure that the listener doesn't feel the headphones and can keep their ears warm at the same time. It provides a crisp and clear sound and is available in several different designs to suite your individual personality.
Currently it is retailing in the US for $59.99 via the Aerial7 website.
In South Africa it might not be the perfect gift given our high temperatures over this period. It would still be a great idea to keep in mind for the following winter.
Needless to say, paying $59.99 for something you can make yourself doesn't really make sense. So I took it upon myself to see for how "cheap" I could make one in theory. I have opted not to take the "get grandma to knit me a beanie route". Those beanies normally never fit and they stretch after the first wash.
- 1 x Beanie from PEP Stores = R 15.99
- 1 x Earphones from any cell shop = R 49.99
- Sowing 2 pockets inside the beanie to house the headphones = priceless
- Total Price = R 65,98 (VAT Incl)
Just remember to remove the headphones when you put them in the laundry basket.
