Day #11
<yesterday>
6:30am – pissing with rain
7:30am – it’s still raining so we cancel the Phi-Phi tour, we still have another day in Krabi so we feel we can hold out until the morrow.
9:30am – the sun is up, hmmm oh well no going back now as all the boats have all left.
Oh well you just can’t beat the elements and we can still go tomorrow so I’m holding thumbs for that, can’t come to Thailand and not live the Alex Garland dream of that Beach. So with that behind us we just head out for the day, I’m thinking of a shave, yes I haven’t had once since arrival and the itch is starting to get under my skin but let’s see...
It’s gone, all gone thanks to the lovely ladies at one of the salons. It seems you can get pretty much anything done in Thailand and you don’t need to lift a finger. I reckon that is part of the Thai attraction, everything is pretty much affordable. Again, just like yesterday, I feel lighter and after yesterdays foot scrub I reckon that should be at least 5 kilos off the scale, being the ever optimist.
We hit the beach for some down time and a walk, and on the way back we catch a motorbike-cum-scooter/sidecar taxi. We then hit the hotel pool before, you guessed it, the rain Gods open the heavens, again. This reminds me of a Johannesburg afternoon shower again because as soon as it’s here, it’s just as soon gone again. I sit undercover and drink a delectable strawberry milkshake and shovel a club sandwich in.
Next stop a massage, yip this time we go and do the full body with oil massage, no happy endings though... So with the feet done, the beard, well not quite a beard, gone this is the last stop for body heaven on my Thailand sojourn. Its absolute quality and all the knots are gone.
So keeping with the new lease on life we both head to, you guessed it, the beach again. Grab a Chang beer at a beach bar before we walk on the beach again and come across a troop of monkeys, personally I am scared of them because I feel they are too unpredictable and carry a nasty bite but it doesn’t seem to bother many of the others watching, at least in the opposite direction there is an amazing sunset to cap a somewhat relaxing day. No camera as it’s back at the hotel...
Next stop dinner, so I grab a steak at the Golden Beach Resort, my first of the holiday and it’s tender and delicious. Straight afterwards the missus and I set fire to a love balloon, yip I still have some of those love strings in the armoury.
It basically works on the hot air balloon syndrome and just drifts up, up and away into the dark of the night. Afterwards we grab some beers and pool where we bump into 2 English blokes. They have just got into Thailand from a New Zealand and Australia trek, and they make NZ sound like a place to visit. New Zealand sounds like an extreme adventurist paradise, what with running around in a camper van, sky-diving and speed boating through the mountains just a few of the intriguing stunts. As we leave there are stars in the sky, so I am holding thumbs for Phi-Phi tomorrow.
