This was followed by a rousing rendition of La Marsellaise. It even managed to stir me, reminding me of the song in the film Casblanca when it was sung as a rejection of the Nazis.
Were the French resorting to phsychological tactics in the prelude to the match?
In the game itself, the Spingboks failed to impress, after starting out ahead. France were able to find gaps and managed to finish with a 7 point lead.
Not a devastating victory, but dissapointing for the world champions.

It is not an excuse for losing. I thought it a disgrace nonetheless.
I thought that the way it was sung was a disgrace. Ant the singer is a South African!

I thought it was extremely disrespectful. No excuse though but I will be an advocate of banning year-end tours unless they mean something aka Australia going for the grand slam, player management should be the key focus. I mean Bakkies and Victor were cla*sic cases of: if you aren't playing at full tilt you are going to get hurt.

I think it is totally irrelevant. So typical of SA to make such a fuss about a bloody anthem. Who cares if it was sung badly and sounded crap? Surely we should be focusing on improving our game, instead of shifting the focus to a bloody anthem?

I agree too. I was amused and amazed at the quality of the rendition, but the amount of fuss has gotten totally out of hand!
It seems that the SA Emba*sy provided his name, so the problem was not with the French.

And if anyone can blame the way an anthem is sung for a reason why professional athletes don't perform then... :roll
:p :zzz
